University of North Dakota senior captain Dillon Simpson is a finalist for three National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) individual awards, the league announced today as part of the unveiling of its inaugural award finalists.
Simpson is one of four finalists for NCHC Player of the Year and is also one of three finalists for both Defenseman of the Year and Offensive Defenseman of the Year. Earlier this week, the Edmonton, Alberta, native was named to the All-NCHC First Team, while also garnering NCHC Scholar-Athlete Team and academic all-conference honors.
Simpson scored 19 points in 24 NCHC games to tie for the league lead among defensemen. He also led all rearguards in goals (6), power-play goals (5) and game-winning goals (2) while anchoring UND’s power play and penalty killing units.
Additionally, North Dakota sophomore Zane Gothberg is one of three finalists for NCHC Goaltender of the Year and head coach Dave Hakstol is one of three NCHC Coach of the Year finalists.
