A major winter storm is expected to impact the region Sunday afternoon through Monday. Southerly winds will increase in the Red River Valley Sunday afternoon, and blowing snow will develop and may reduce visibilities in open country. Snow, heavy at times, will spread from west to east late Sunday afternoon into Monday evening. Winds will shift to the northwest and increase late Sunday night and Monday morning, and blizzard conditions may develop along and west of the Red River Valley. Total snowfall accumulations should be 4 to 8 inches across much of the region by Monday evening. Slightly higher snowfall totals of 6 to 10 inches are likely across portions of northwest Minnesota. Stay tuned for later statements on this winter storm.
