A 25-year old park river (nd) man is hospitalized in grand forks after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy in walsh county. Authorities were called to a farmstead west of lankin (nd) shortly after eight p-m Tuesday on a report of a man threatening suicide. When deputies arrived they heard shots being fired and escorted a number of family members away from the scene. According to sheriff Lauren wild as officers began searching the property they discovered the subject behind the house with a shotgun. Wild says as the man started to point the weapon at the officers three shots rang out striking the suspect one time. The subject has been identified as Nathan paul mcnelis. The deputy who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave – standard procedure during the investigation. A condition report for mcnelis has not been released. law enforcement personnel do not believe the injuries are life-threatening. The north Dakota crime bureau is assisting in the investigation.
