A number of changes are being proposed for University Avenue in Grand Forks to help improve traffic safety through the UND campus. A transportation traffic committee has been working on the recommendations ranging from a public awareness campaign to median improvements. MPO’s Earl Haugen says part of the info campaign will inform both motorists and pedestrians of the right-of-way rules of the road. Haugen says another goal is to try and make the campus shuttle system more attractive to students. The study says crossing guards may also be utilized during key day parts. Dropped from consideration is closing University Avenue to vehicle traffic. A public input meeting to discuss the changes will be held today at the UND Memorial Union.
