Oral aruments were aired before a three judge appeals panel on a lawsuit over UND's former nickname. A judge last year dismissed a lawsuit filed against the NCAA by Spirit Lake nickname supporters. They appealed the case to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. Judges lavenski smith… Michael melloy…and duaneBenton have the case under review. Nickname supporters claim they were left out of the negotiated settlement to retire the moniker.
Oral arguments on behalf of the nickname were made by third year law student Eric Lauerman who attends Penn State. He presented the case under the student practice rule. Lauerman interned with Minot Attorney Reed Soderstrom who is the legal counsel for nickname supporters.
