UND Nickname

North Dakota voters won’t see the University of North Dakota nickname issue on the ballot in 2014.  The deadline for supporters of UND’s former Fighting Sioux nickname missed a deadline this week for turning petitions in to Secretary of State Al Jaeger.   Jaeger says when a petition is approved for circulation backers have one year to gather signatures.  He says the deadline for the sponsoring committee was 12/12/12.  Jaeger says the constitutional issue can brought up in the future but supporters would have to start the process all over again.  Nickname Attorney Reed Soderstrom could not be reached for comment.
