Saturday’s springfest event in university park resulted in a record number of citations. The grand forks police department handed out 142 tickets – the vast majority alcohol related. The annual bash is held each year on the weekend before u-n-d’s graduation. The event features music…food…and beer inside the park. Grand forks police captain mark nelson says it’s not so much the event inside in the park that causes complaints as to what happens at house parties in nearby neighborhoods.
The citations included 63 for public consumption….23 alcohol in the park without a permit…19 minors consuming…13 noisy parties…nine disorderly conduct…and the rest for assorted issues including false i-d’s…drugs…and littering. The 142 ticket tally beat last year’s record of 118.
Captain nelson says around 40 officers were on hand for springfes 2013.
