The north dakota department of transportation expects to make a decision on the future of the sorlie bridge in grand forks next year. A citizens group is seeking public input to supplement scoping meetings held by the d-o-t. Transportation officials say all options remain on the discussion – including a new structure linking grand forks and east grand forks (mn). A minnesota department of transportation historic management plan compiled in 2006 reported the bridge to be in good condition. the Mndot analysis recommended future rehabilitation of the river crossing over replacement saying the bridge has excellent load capacity and adequate vertical and horizontal clearances. North Dakota d-o-t officials say they are very familiar with the minnesota plan but it’s important to remain objective in trying to decide whether to rehab or replace. Preliminary cost estimates exceed 29-million dollars. construction is planned to begin in 2018.
