The North Dakota Board of Higher Education has appointed Larry C. Skogen, Ph.D., president of Bismarck State College, as the interim chancellor of the North Dakota University System. Dr. Skogen has been serving as acting chancellor since June 24, 2013. His appointment, effective November 1, 2013, will run through June 2015.
Board President Kirsten Diederich noted that Skogen has a demonstrated record of success in working in a collaborative environment, building strong relationships with key constituencies and is well positioned to refine and implement the Pathways to Student Success Plan designed to take the North Dakota University System to a higher level of accountability and performance.
The other candidate was Shane Goettle, former Commissioner of the North Dakota Department of Commerce.
Skogen, a native of Hettinger, North Dakota, has been president of BSC since 2006. Previously he was academic dean and deputy superintendent for academic affairs at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico.
