The River Forecast Center is feverishly crunching new numbers in preparation for Thursday’s release of an updated spring flood outlook for the Red River Valley. The center and National Weather Service are incorporating this week’s snow storm into the new models. The center’s Steve Buan says everybody in the upper Midwest has to start thinking about having more water this Spring. Buan says it’s something to keep an eye on.
The good news is the southern end of the valley missed the brunt of this week’s storm. Buan says each outlook anticipates some additional precipitaiton but getting a month's worth in two days is never a good thing.
The February 21st flood outlook gave Fargo a 79-percent chance of major flooding while Grand Forks / East Grand Forks was only six-percent.
