Another big road project is scheduled to get underway this week in grand forks. Work begins on the 32nd avenue south reconstruction project. City engineer al grasser says it’s a struggle to maintain some 250 miles of urban highway. Grasser says the biggest challenge is finding the necessary money to build new roads and do the routine maintenance on existing city streets.
he says it would take around seven million dollars in each of the next ten years to bring all streets in the city up to a set standard.
Some council members have floated the idea of asking voters to approve a short term sales tax increase to help fund road projects in the city.
work on 32nd will stretch from I-29 to south Washington and last most of the summer.
