Recess Time
September 13, 2012
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota is launching a new initiative designed to promote physical activity for kids in school. Studies show one in four North Dakota children can be classified as obese. The blues recently distributed 46-hundred so-called “recess-yes” kits to elementary school teachers across the state. It includes a music c-d and resource guide with tips how teachers can incorporate recess into the classroom day. Blues CEO Paul Von Ebers says the idea came out of a series of community forums and discussions with employer groups. Von Ebers says it’s important for all North Dakotans to find time during the day for a physical activity break to not only improve individual health but lower overall health care costs.
