The University of North Dakota will ask the ND Board of Higher Education on Thursday to authorize the demolition of the old Winter Sports Arena on campus. Fundraising is currently underway for a new 19-and-a-half million dollar indoor athletic practice facility. The complex would be located near the Memorial Stadium and requires the removal of the old Ralph Englestad Arena. It’s estimated it will cost around 800-thousand dollars to raze the old Ralph. Scrap value of the building could run upwards of 250-thousand dollars. The project is expected to be completed by August. The state board is meeting inBismarck.
UND is also seeking authorization to spend 29-million dollars on a renovation and an addition to the Wilkerson Hall dining center. The 1969 building is UND's largest food service center.
