The polk county (mn) sheriff’s office is warning residents of a potential scam making the rounds targeting cell phone customers. Authorities say it involves an automated 800 number making calls telling recipients they are eligible for Verizon wireless rebates ranging from 50 dollars to 220-dollars. the message directs potential victims to claim their rebate by going to a website. callbacks to the 800 number yield busy signals. once on the website recipients are urged to give out personal information – including mobile accounts. Both the polk county s-o and Verizon are investigating.
