A 26-year old man was arrested early this morning in connection with a break-in at the Salvation Army headquarters building on University Avenue. Authorities responded to the burglary in progress around three-15 a-m. When officers arrived they spotted an individual still inside the building. The suspect refused verbal commands to come out and tried to flee on foot. Police say Brian Gonitzke is being charged with criminal trespass…criminal mischief failure to halt.
Meanwhile…the GFPD has arrested a 20-year old Grand Forks man for stealing mail from a mailbox building. A suspicious person tip from the public sent officers to the Columbia Heights mobile home park shorlty before six a-m. Authorities say the suspect…identified as Travis Russell…was arrested a short distance away. The stolen mail and packages were recovered in a nearby building.

Fargo Police responded to a disturbance involving a gun. Officers responded at 8:36 p.m. to the 100 block of 7th Avenue North and found an unresponsive male. The male appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. Officers began life-saving measures and performed CPR. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the male to a local emergency room. Shortly after arriving at the emergency room, doctors pronounced the male deceased.
A person of interest, Christopher Paul Hampton (24 years old), was found near the scene and detained. Hampton was later arrested for Murder (AA Felony). He currently resides at the address of this incident.
The victim, a 28 year old male, was known to the suspect. They lived at the same residence.
