The eighth u-s circuit court of appeals in st-paul today affirmed a lower court ruling in favor of the n-c-a-a regarding u-n-d’s former “fighting Sioux” nickname. The spirit lake tribe and its committee for understanding and respect claimed they were left out of the negotiated settlement to retire the moniker. In its ruling the appeals court said the committee failed to show the n-c-a-a acted with discriminatory intent. It goes on to say the n-c-a-a actions neither violate the laws of the land or its own constitution and bylaws.
tribal attorney reed soderstrom tells k-n-o-x news that he has no regrets adding -quote- “ i wish I could have done more.” soderstrom goes on to say that suporters are disappointed but he wouldn’t be surprised if the matter comes up again in his lifetime.
