It’s been ten months since the Grand Forks School Board endorsed the recommendations of a demographic task force that included construction of a new south side elementary school. In the next few weeks a facilities committee will get a chance to review the proposed site selection for the new school and building plans. School officials admit the process has taken longer than anticipated but for good reason. Superintendent Dr. Larry Nybladh says the cost estimate for the new school is still in the ten million dollar range. One thing that could change is the opening date. He says a discussion will take place whether to open in the Fall of 2014 or push it back to 2015. The school board is expected to approve the land purchase and changes to the construction timetable at a meeting in January.
