A national advocacy group is already mapping out strategy for the 2015 north dakota legislative session. The American cancer society center action network says number one on the to do list is increasing the state’s tobacco tax. The network’s government relations director deb knuth says 35-hundred people will be diagnosed with cancer in north Dakota this year. Knuth says north Dakota is one of only three states in the nation that hasn’t raised tobacco taxes in the last ten years…
North dakota’s 44-cent per pack tax is among the lowest in the nation.
Knuth says north dakota deserves high marks for its indoor smoke-free law…comprehensive cessation coverage…and for funding tobacco prevention above c-d-c recommended levels.
