North Dakota game and fish officials will slash the number of licenses available to deer hunters again this fall. A total of 48-thousand licenses will be made available for the 2014 gun season – eleven-thousand-500 fewer than last year. Wildlife chief randy kreil says after five years of reducing deer gun licenses the population is still below management objectives in most parts of the state. For example deer numbers are down 21-percent in unit2-c….29-percent in 2-d. kreil says high quality deer habitat continues to be lost limiting the potential for population recovery. The 2014 license count is the lowest number since 1980.
