U-S Senator Heidi Heitkamp is urging the creation of a national Commission on Native American children. Heitkamp says the mission of the group would be to address the high rates of poverty… crime…and unemployment in Indian country.
Heitkamp says 37-percent of Native children live in poverty and the high school graduation rate for Native students is only around 50-percent. This is Heitkamp's first bill as a senator.
