The grand forks planning and zoning commission gave preliminary approval this week to a conditional use permit allowing Leighton broadcasting to build new studios south of grand forks. The pacel in question includes the existing site of k-n-o-x radio. constuction of the state-of-the-art studios is pegged at upwards of one-and-a-half million dollars and is scheduled to begin this summer. The current site is zoned agricultural. City planner brad gengler says that presents a roadblock of sorts in terms of current zoning. A recommendation to amend the ordinance to allow radio and t-v stations in an a-one zone was shot down in favor of issuing a conditional use permit.
The motion passed on a unanimous vote.
