The Grand Forks Park Board is expected to ink a contract with architechts this week for drawing up plans on a new twin ice arena in south Grand Forks. Park Superintendent Bill Palmascino says fundraising efforts continue on the project. Palmascino says supporters are about half the way towards an anticipated eight million dollar goal. The Blue Line Club has committed two-and-a-half million and the Englestad Foundation has pledged a one-half million dollar matching grant. Park officials say a public fundraising campaign will likely begin in February. The arena would be located on land near the Choice Health and Fitness in the Altru Wellness Village.
