A north Dakota d-o-t beautification program along u-s highway two west of grand forks has hit a snag. Many of the trees and shrubs used in the 2012 pilot project are struggling at best.
d-o-t officials worked with landscape architechts to improve the appearance of highway 2 from the airport to the city limits. There were concerns about the survivability of some plantings because of the poor soils in the area. The d-o-t’s terri wilhelm says crews will re-test the soils to see if there have been any changes and the trees and shrubs carry a two year warranty. wilhelm says all the dead material will be replaced.
the original project cost around 200-thousand dollars with the city’s share in excess of ten-thousand dollars.
