Highway 2 crashes starting top pile up

By Doug Barrett Jul 2, 2021 | 7:53 AM

The intersection of Highway 2 near Airport Road was the site of two separate crashes just hours apart on Thursday.  The area in question is currently undergoing construction where traffic is head to head.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the first accident occurred around 2:30 p.m.   Two west bound drivers were waiting for a red light to change when a 54-year old woman from Emerado (ND) failed to stop causing a chain reaction crash.  The striking driver was transported to Altru Hospital with minor injuries.  The woman is also facing a potential DUI charge.  The other drivers and passengers were uninjured.

About two hours later a similar accident occurred on the east bound lanes.  As vehicles slowed for the intersection a 20-year old Grand Forks man was unable to stop in time.  The driver is facing a charge of following too closely.  There were no injuries.
