Grand forks county has a tentative agreement on a lease to establish a u-a-s technology park at the grand forks air force base. The so-called agreement on terms was reached this week with the u-s air force civil engineering center. Final approval of the contract with the air force is expected by the end of the year. The project dubbed grand sky will cover approximately 225 acres at the g-f-a-f-b. County commissioner john Schmisek says the park will support all phases of development of unmanned aircraft systems. schmisek says the next step is to send out a request for qualifications to find a developer to market and raise private financing for the park.
Supporters say grand sky has the potential to support as many as three-thousand new jobs. Northrup Grumman has already agreed to be an anchor tenant in the complex.
