With snow totals adding up and with the arrival of Spring this week when is it going to go away? Officials with the National Weather Service say not for awhile. In fact the long-range seven to ten day outlook doesn’t call for much in the way of melting snow. With the fresh snowpack the ground is quite white meaning a high reflectivity to sunlight. Greg Gust of the NWS office in Grand Forks says the longer we push the snowmelt progression out the more the concern goes up about a rapid melt.
Snow pack moisture is at least three inches basin wide with some areas in the five inch range.
The NWS and River Forecast Center will update the flood outlook on Thursday of this week.
Grand Forks received another 4.6 inches of snow on Monday.
