The Grand Forks Police Department is under the microscope this week as an accreditation team arrives in town to review the p-d’s policies and procedures. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement will look at 470 different standards. police Lt. Jeff Burgess says the department has been working towards accreditation since 2011.
Lt-Burgess says the accreditation is voluntary. Only two law agenicies in the state have achieved the milestone: Bismarck Police Department and the NDHP.
The department expects to receive feedback on the site visit sometime in July but the actual accreditation wouldn’t become official until a meeting in November. The assessment team will be in Grand Forks through Wednesday.
