The US Air Force could narrow the list of eligible bases to receive tanker missions by next Wednesday. US Senator John Hoeven says Air Force Chief of Staff General Mark Welsh told him the site selection process is in the final stages. Grand Forks is hoping to host the new KC-46A refueling tankers when they roll off the assembly line. Hoeven says Welsh expects three bases to be selected from the short list by the spring of 2013: one guard affiliated…one training…and one active duty. Hoeven says the GFAFB is well positioned to be on that list. The base currently has a UAS/RPA mission. Hoeven says he invited General Welsh to visit the GFAFB to see the base capabilities first hand.
