A task force will likely be formed in the next month to help combat binge and underage drinking in Grand Forks. The city’s safety-service committee agreed to the concept at a meeting Thursday but the exact make-up of the group is yet to be determined. The committee has been looking at policies and laws in regards to server training…drink specials…density of liquor shops…and the number of licenses in the city. Council President Hal Gershman called the task force a good idea but added the conversation needs to go one step further. Gershman says families need to talk to teens about the dangers of underage drinking.
One of the first items on the agenda for the new task force will be a review of social host laws – making it a crime for an adult to allow minors to drink on their property or home.
