There wasn’t a lot of support for a grand forks school plan to hike the local levy to balance the district’s books at last night’s public hearing.  a packed house heard residents object to the proposed 28-point-six percent bump.   Among those who testified where three members of the grand forks city council.   Councilman terry bjerke reminded the board that they face an upcoming vote by 2015 on the question of an unlimited mill levy.

Councilman dana sande says greater scrutiny of the budget is needed.

Doug Christiansen suggested the district delay building a new south side elementary school for a few years.

School board members didn’t respond to questions during the hearing.  The board will take up the budget battle on september 9th.
