Calls for service are up at the Grand Forks Public Service Answering Point this year. PSAP Director Becky Ault says in 2011 dispatchers responded to 67-thousand-517 calls – including over nine-thousand made to 9-1-1. Ault says through the first six months of 2012 a total of 35-thousand-667 calls have come in compared to 31-thousand at the same point one year ago. Dispatch centers across the country are gearing up for some technology changes. In Grand Forks the next generation 9-1-1 system will be phased in over the next five years or so. Ault says next generation will allow the public to call…text…or even send video data directly to 9-1-1. Ault says cell phones now make up 77-percent of all calls to the Grand Forks PSAP center.
