There were no shortages of phone calls to the Grand Forks Public Safety Answering Point…or PSAP…in 2012. Calls to the dispatch center jumped to 125-thousand plus last year – including 41-thousand-332 emergency 9-1-1 calls for help. That compares to less than 25-thousand 9-1-1 calls the previous year. Nearly 60-percent of the calls for assistance were directed towards the Grand Forks Police Department. According to a year-end report psap says 78-percent of all calls now come from wireless devices. The report was compiled for the Grand Forks City Council. This is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
