GF property taxes projected to remain flat in 2022

The Grand Forks council got a first look at a proposed 2022 operating budget last night.

Mayor Brandon Bochenski’s is calling for a general fund budget of $43.4 million dollars next year – a 6.72% increase over the current spending plan.  Employee salaries would climb just over three-percent.  The increase would be funded in large part by a jump in the value of a mill – projected to climb 4.45% next year.

Finance Director Maureen Storstad says the budget blueprint actually calls for a slight mill reduction.  “It would reduce .88 mills…..it holds property tax flat on average.”

The plan also calls for utility bills to go up about $1.19 cents for the average user.  Mayor Bochenski says it all starts with the current budget.  “Things are looking good as revenue and building permits exceed expectations.”

The council will work on the spending document between now and when they give final approval on September 7th.
