The downtown parking ramp could be out of commission for a good portion of the summer if plans to upgrade the aging structure go forward. The city is reviewing plans to make structural repairs to the parking facility. The ramp completed in 1979 has 403 spaces spread over five levels.
Urban Development Director Greg Hoover says many of the upgrades can’t wait and it’s pay now or pay more later.
Funding for the one-point-36 million dollar project could come out of unrestricted monies….cash carryover dollars….and excess sales tax dollars. The city also stands to lose nearly 27-thousand dollars in lost revenue during the closer. As it stands the entire ramp would be down in June and July with portions off limits for three additional months.
