With two licenses already under their belt walmart officials have asked the city of grand forks for a new class of liquor license for the proposed store on gateway drive. City ordinance prevents an applicant from more than two licenses of each classification. walmart is asking the city for a class three license for off-sale beer and wine only at the north end store. Members of the safety-service committee say the current licensing system seems to be working just fine and there’s no need to create a new classification. committee chair terry bjerke questions whether the new license would apply to other retail outlets --including convenience stores and gas stations. The council will take a look at the do not pass recommendation Monday night.
