After nearly two hours of debate the grand forks council passed a housing discrimination ordinance last night. The law covers all forms of discrimination including sexual orientation and gender identity. A number of people spoke out both for and against the measure.
Violators could face a loss of a certificate of occupany license and or a 500 dollar fine.
Grand forks will become the first city in the state to adopt such an ordinance. The law allows exemptions for religious housing…single family homes…and four-plexes where the owner resides. The council approved the plan on a five-to-two vote.
