Grand Forks and East Grand Forks are shrinking according to the latest population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. The CB released new 2011 figures today for cities and suggests Grand Forks lost 270 residents over the past year. the grand Forks /East Grand Forks Metropolitan Planning Organization disagrees. the MPO’s Earl Haugen says the bureau’s methodology seems to lag with the data they rely on in compiling the estimates. The new numbers peg the Grand Forks population at 52-thousand-631. The bureau also lowered the East Grand Forks population by 50 to eight-thousand-560. Haugen says the population has been growing at one to two percent each year.
