It looks like grand forks may have overpaid the local share for the city’s flood control project. since entering into an agreement for construction of the levee system following the 1997 flood the u-s corps of engineers has kept track of the spreadsheets for construction. Based on the latest cost breakdown it appears the grand forks share of the 387-million dollar project will be reduced by over one-point-one million dollars. assistant city engineer mark walker says the staff recommendation is to set those dollars aside – for future capital projects.
Walker says the city calready collects a fee on monthly water bills for everyday dike maintenance.
The city council still needs to review the final cost share agreement.
