The pending retirement of grand forks administrator rick duquette could open the door to a review of the management structure of city government. duquette informed the mayor and council last month of his plans to step down this fall. after a quick briefing on the process for hiring a new administrator several council members suggested it might be to look at the position itself. Councilman terry bjerke suggested the discussion include the size of the mayor’s office and whether the mayor should be full or part-time.
Councilman doug christensen says there’s been a lot of changes since the position was created 15 years ago. member bret weber says there’s an opportunity for discussion but at the same time if the system “ain’t broke…don’t fix it.” More talk is expected as the council begins work on a proposed 2014 budget.
