The grand forks city council inked a letter of interest last night with developers of a one-point-five billion dollar fertilizer plant. Northern plains nitrogen is hoping to build the facility near the grand forks sewage lagoons. The plant would tap into the city’s wastewater as part of the production process. The two sides will now seek a series of state permits to help seal the deal. Councilman bret weber says it’s an exciting project but he urged the city to move cautiously in the name of safety.
The city will need to spend around 78-thousand dollars to cover its share of the application process. the agreement passed on a unanamous vote.
