The east grand forks (mn) police department has secured a grant to help prevent tragedies like the august drowning death of an eleven-year old boy with autism. Anthony kuznia wandered from his home and ended up in the red river. The non-profit group project lifesaver will provide the p-d with equipment and training to track people with autism or other illnesses should they stray from home. subjects would receive an ankle or wrist bracelet that they would wear that has a g-p-s device in it. if that person is reporting missing police would be able to track the individual down. police chief mike hedlund says Local fundraising efforts will also help ensure the long-term viability of the program. hedlund says the goal of the grant is to save lives.
