the East grand forks city council is asking the public for input as they close in on a decision how to proceed with the city’s future wastewater needs. The city has narrowed its search to a new lagoon system or an interconnect project with grand forks. The latest analysis suggests the total construction cost of the interconnect at just under seven-million dollars while the pond system exceeds 18-million. Long term costs also give the interconnect a financial edge. As far as rates go the stabilizations ponds would likely cost the average homeowner about 72-dollars more per year according to the minutes of an august 27th wastewater forum. However the lagoon system does offer east grand forks local control. the wastewater issue could be decided at next week’s council meeting.
