East Grand Forks Mayor Lynn Stauss has vetoed plans to renovate the city’s public pool citing the high cost of the construction project. Stauss says taxpayers can’t afford an eight-percent levy increase – especially with some other big ticket capital projects waiting in the wings. In his veto message the mayor says he favors making immediate repairs necessary to keep the pool open and to develop a plan for the future. The city council voted four to three last week to support the upgrades despite bids being 300-thousand dollars over design estimates. The mayor filed his veto late Tuesday afternoon.
