A mule deer taken from southwestern north Dakota has tested positive for c-w-d. game and fish officials say it is the fouth deer and first buck to test positive for chronic wasting disease since 2009. game and fish wildlife veterinarian dr-dan grove says all four animals were from the same unit 3F2.
The department is also testing upwards of 700 samples from 29 deer drop-off locations in eastern north dakota. grove says he would be shocked to find c-w-d in the red river valley.
c-w-d affects the nervous system of members of the deer family and is always fatal. scientists have found no evidence that c-w-d can be transmitted to humans.
