Grand Forks Police are investigating the theft of numerous copper wire spools from a business located in the industrial park. Authorities say Dakota Supply Group was forcibly entered over the weekend and the theft was reported Monday morning. The high price of scrap metal has fueled copper thefts throughout the region. Legislation pending before North Dakota lawmakers this session would require scrap dealers to keep business records of any purchase…trade…barter…or transaction of scrap metals over 25 dollars.
Authorities say they are still awaiting an inventory of how much copper was removed and a dollar amount from Dakota supply but it appears the theft was “sizeable.” Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the GFPD at 787-8000.
