Author J-K Rowling will remain on the library shelves in the Grand Forks School District. School board members this week took the action after getting a complaint about the book “Tales of Beedle the Bard” from a parent at Phoenix Elementary. Lucy Pawlak asked the district to restrict access to the book after discovering passages dealing with suicide and murder. In a written “request for consideration” to the district Pawlak suggests the material could result in harm or sleep disturbance to young readers. A Phoenix school committee reviewed the complaint in late October and recommended removing the book -- suggesting the content was not age appropriate. A district level book committee reviewed the recommendation and voted to require parental permission for students grades five and below. The school board prefers to let moms and dads police their kids reading choices.
