Amtrak hauled more than 31-point-two million passengers in fiscal year 2012 – a new record for annual ridership. Passenger traffic increased three-point-five percent for the year ending September 30th and ticket revenue climbed nearly seven-percent. All 15 Amtrak long-distance routes experienced gains. The Empire Builder which runs through North dakota and Minnesota climbed nearly 16-percent. A total of 154,864 North Dakotans rode the rails during the 12-month span – including over 20-thousand through the Grand Forks station.
