American Crystal Sugar officials will not be attending a proposed meeting with locked out union workers later this month. The union invited CEO Dave Berg to a gathering in East Grand Forks on August 18th to speak directly to workers why they should accept the company’s contract offer. In a letter posted on the company’s web site ACS Attorney James Dawson writes the two sides have held 21 negotiating sessions and the final offer has been posted for over one year. Dawson goes on to say unless the union leadership is prepared to recommend the final offer be approved the meeting will not resolve the dispute. Around 13-hundred workers have been locked out of their jobs for more than a year. ACS has sugar processing plants in North Dakota…Minnesota…and Iowa.
