The Alerus Center is poised to have its best financial year in 2012. The events center building is in the black to the tune of 838-thousand dollars through October. The November financial report will be given to commission members December 19th -- it’s expected to show additional growth to the bottom line. Alerus Executive Director Cheryl Swanson says there’s a number of factors for the turnaround this year including more conferences and greater use of the arena. Swanson says UND's entrance into the Big Sky Football Conference also boosted attendance. The surplus includes 352-thousand dollars in hospitality tax collections. Swanson says they plan to set a few dollars aside in a rainy day fund. Over three-point-four million people have passed through the doors of thealeruscentersince it opened in 2001.
