2012 was a busy year for construction in Greater Grand Forks. The city of Grand Forks issued over 15-hundred building permits last year – including 110 for new single family homes and 22 townhouse units. The 132 total units compares to only 85 in 2011. The total number of housing units constructed in 2012 was 424 – or 98 more than the previous year. The total value of construction last year was nearly 128-million dollars. While that was down from the previous year 2011 was bolstered by construction of the Choice Health and Fitness.
In East Grand Forks 21 single family home permits were issued compared to just four in 2011. East Grand Forks Economic Development Housing Director Jim Richter says based in inquiries into new lots he would anticipate 2013 to be another strong year. The total value of all building permits issued in East Grand Forks doubled last year to more than 12-point-six million.
